"Champion" is a song by Trinidadian-American rapperNicki Minaj from her second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The song was written by Onika Maraj , Tyler Williams,Nikhil Seetharam, Aubrey Graham , Jay Jenkins, Nasir Jones and was produced by T-Minus. It features guest vocals by Nas, Drake, & Young Jeezy . It was released on April 2, 2012 along with the whole album, both physical and digital format.
Minaj confirmed on June 6 that "Champion" is the next urban single from the album, and will be released along with "Pound The Alarm". However, she changed of mind and release I Am Your Leader as the next urban single instead of Champion. It is unknown if she will release Champion as a single posteriorly.
Many critics said the song was a reprise of "Moment 4 Life," however, she mentions more about her childhood and personal life in this song. She talks about her old childhood friends, Tee-Tee, Tweety, Viola, Sharica, Candace, Thembi, Lauren, and Aisha. She also pays tribute to her late cousin, Nicholas Telemaque, who was shot dead in 2011.
Upon the release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, the song debuted around number 80 on iTunes.
It also samples part of the lyrics of Minaj's song "Click Clack" (Bitches don't know the half like they flunked at math).
